During the period from October 1st to 4th, 2024, GTEL had a significant presence at the Brazilian Telecommunications Symposium (SBRT/24), held in Belém-PA. A delegation of approximately 15 participants represented the Group, including professors, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students. The delegation was led by Prof. Charles Casimiro Cavalcante.
Papers were presented in the broad field of wireless communications, covering topics such as Interference Management, Resource Allocation, Multiple Antennas, Channel Estimation, Practical Applications, and the Internet of Things, among others. Our researchers had the opportunity to share the Group’s advancements in various areas of telecommunications, as well as interact with leading researchers in Brazil on related topics.
One of the official event program’s mini-courses was offered by GTEL researchers. The mini-course, titled “User-Centric Distributed MIMO Systems: Resource Allocation, Efficiency and Limitations,” was taught by Professors Walter and Igor, with additional authors including Professors Rodrigo Cavalcanti, Yuri C. B. Silva, and GTEL researcher Roberto Antonioli.
During the event, the results of the first edition of the Doctoral Thesis Award by SBrT (Brazilian Telecommunications Society) were announced. The thesis by GTEL researcher Gilderlan Tavares de Araújo, titled “Tensor-Based Approaches for Channel Estimation in IRS-Assisted MIMO Wireless Communications,” developed under the supervision of Prof. André L. F. de Almeida, received an honorable mention. Gilderlan is a graduate of the Teleinformatics Engineering Postgraduate Program (PPGETI) at UFC and developed his thesis work within the context of GTEL’s partnership with Ericsson, a multinational leader in the telecommunications sector.
